Is it me or are two mischievous strangers peeking out from behind the newspaper in my lap a little freaky (not to mention distracting)?

Yeah, I know that by mentioning the ad, it has served it’s immediate purpose but really, is it worth it if I’ll have a negative association with the brand in the future? Whatever, right? I’m not buying a Ford Focus anyway.

Those of you who know me are acquainted with my philosophies regarding intent. In a nutshell, I believe that people unfailingly see themselves as acting in their own best interests or in the best interests of others. I believe that, in general, few people wake up in the morning and declare that they are going to make someone cry that day. If they do, they do so because at their core, they believe they are causing pain for the greater good. If you know even a little bit about my upbringing, you’d see why I have to believe that this is true.
Today I met someone whose personal damage was incompatible to my own and wow, was it a difficult situation. It still is and it’s been hours. This particular damage was one that has a certain knife-like quality for me. It takes the form of repeated declarative statements about the subject’s state of being, such as, “you’re really upset today” or “I’m glad that you agree.” Reread the first sentence here for another example of imposing personal assumptions upon others.
